Tumbleweeds

Like tumbleweeds we roll through life

Sometimes free as the wind

sailing smoothly across existence

Occasionally stuck on an obstacle

waiting for enough air to lighten our load

Some go sailing off a cliff

into the abyss of nothingness

They crumble to dust

and become part of the wind

that sets them free

Like tumbleweeds, we begin as seedlings

Roots grow deep in the soil

When it comes time to leave

we are of necessity set free

to leave our mark on the world

and spread the seeds of our being

in the hopes that someone will remember

we were here
