The Death of Not Being Enough
What Will Be Your Turning Point?
It begins with small, thoughtless comments.
“Your brother is such a well-behaved boy.”
“Don’t you wish you had beautiful hair like Sally?”
“You should let Deborah sing this part. She has such a pretty voice.”
The next thing you know, you’re sitting on the sidelines during sporting events, or perpetually third chair in band. You’re not quite a disappointment, yet you begin to feel like you simply aren’t “enough”.
Over time it becomes the promotions that never materialize because you’re so important right where you are, your status in the “friend zone”, the events you never seem to get invited to. Everyone seems to like you, but for some reason — you’re never quite enough.
Perhaps you’ve always excelled at something you are passionate about. Yet every time you had a moment where you glowed brighter than the sun — someone said something to bring you down. Every. Single. Time.
Did you eventually quit trying, or did you learn to stop listening to the noise?
To the outside world I’ve always been good at using the gas lighters and naysayers to push me to greater success. On the inside however, I have always simply wanted to feel like I was — enough.
