Goals are great, but resolutions should be fun.

It’s that time of year when people post how wonderful their life has been, and also the time of year people read those things and get depressed.

No one leads a perfect life. If you’re in a good spot, you may see challenges as growth opportunities. If you’re completely overwhelmed and just trying to get through the day — you don’t want to see other people’s cheeriness regarding the challenges in their lives.

Social media algorithms can make you more depressed as they push out chair yoga for grannies, diet supplements that will give you a flat tummy, 30-day plans to perfection, and such.

New Year’s Resolutions? Don’t buy into them. By April, the majority of resolutions have gone by the wayside. Weight loss? An exercise program? New job? That’s hard stuff. Goals are great, but resolutions should be fun.

Resolve to smell every flower you can, even if you have to walk into a florist shop to do it.

Resolve to make it through as many flavors of ice cream as you can. Don’t set a number, and don’t eat too much — or you’ll have to resolve to lose weight next year.

Resolve to nap. On the couch, in your car, on your bed — wherever you can sneak one in. One nap in 365 days counts.
