Now That I’m 60
I made it to 60. I should be grateful. Many people begin to wonder what happened to the body they’ve known all their life once they hit the age of 40.
You know the routine. Suddenly, your pants fit better if you put them on backwards. Your bird legs unexpectedly have shape. You need a different hairstyle as now your face is rounder than ever before. No matter how healthy you eat, you keep gaining weight. Your joints hurt and you can’t sleep through the night.
I made it to 60. I should be grateful.
Over that past few months, my social media feeds have been filled with all sorts of weight loss and body reshaping “miracles”. Pre and probiotics. Magical rings and bracelets. Oprah’s gummies. Languid exercises you can do without getting out of bed. Specialty teas. All feeding into the myth that you can fix all your body image issues without even trying — so say the reviews.
I was once paid for writing reviews of products I had no personal experience with. It’s a job when you need one.
I am a rare dessert eater. We eat healthy and organic in our house. We are not vegan but use meat as a side dish or addition to a main ingredient. When we do eat a solid hunk of meat, it’s usually fish.
