The trick is knowing who you are.

One word. That’s all it took to push me over the edge into letting go.

I decided at that moment to let go of caring, if caring meant I wanted things to go my way. I can’t control anyone’s decisions other than my own, and that effort to control was turning me into someone I don’t want to be.

I decided to let go of the gossip, inuendo’s and lies we all find so entertaining, yet can drag you down and turn you into someone who is not your authentic self.

The trick is knowing who you are, and what you represent to yourself and the world. Are you kind, loving, and helpful — yet angry with those who don’t do these things the way you feel they should be done? Do you “walk the walk” and do these same things unconditionally without having to think about it?

Is your perception of the world coloring your natural instincts of what being a good human should be?

How we perceive our behavior and the behavior of others may or may not be reality. It is, however, your reality, and that’s important to acknowledge.

One of the best ways to change your perception is to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Why do they see the world differently than you do? Why are they passionate about things you don’t understand?

Conversation is always informative, as we get so little meaning out of the written word. Not good at speaking with someone you don’t agree with? Follow their social media feed to see what they post, then think about why? Remember that you are reading words that have no body language or vocal emphasis behind them.

Letting go doesn’t mean you’re giving up of the world. It means you are giving up on the drama and working on being truly, authentically yourself.

This allows you to love large in your small pond, and let the ripples change the world.
